Detached House

We completed the construction of this detached house recently.

The build involved the demolition of an existing bungalow and construction of a new three bedroomed house and bungalow connected with joint link entrance.


Below is a copy of the letter of reference from the property owners.

Dear Phil and Jeremy

Having been unsuccessful in finding a suitable property to suit the independent requirements of two households, a married couple and a single relative, we decided to explore the idea of having a new property built to meet our specific individual needs. This was feasible, as one of our two existing properties provided the scope for such a plan. From the outset, as the builder selected for our project, we found you helpful and supportive, giving us confidence in our decision to undertake such a scheme.

Despite the unfortunate weather at the start of the build, this time was soon made up and we appreciated the help given during the planning stage. When any problems did arise, these were always dealt with positively and solutions found.

Having been in the completed build for some months now, we haven’t found any hidden problems and, in fact, we are extremely happy with the final result and have received many compliments from friends and other professionals who have visited. We have also recommended your services to relatives and friends, something we would not have done had we ourselves not been completely satisfied with the work of Miller Hughes.

We would all like to thank you for making the experience of having a house built as stress-free as you did, as we are fully aware that the outcome could have been quite different.

The design of the house was by Kenilworth based Architect Jonathan Holland and to achieve the required details was challenging in areas. We worked closely with Jonathan and the property owner to satisfy them.

A particular feature of the property is the curved roof summer room on the rear of the property. Again achieving the desired effect was challenging and required considerable input from all involved to complete. The results however speak for themselves!

Sunnycroft Farm

Sunnycroft Farm – Rugby

This modern new build property was first planned as a refurbishment of the existing property which was a Dorma Bungalow, however due to very poor existing foundations and ground conditions the requirement for a Piled Foundation solution was established which meant that a complete re-build was the preferred route (this also benefitted the customers by being zero rated for VAT). This great modern house incorporated a curved wall entrance turret area with a glass and oak curved suspended staircase, and circular rooflight over creating a fantastic entrance to this quality property.

Field Gate Lane

Fieldgate Lane, Kenilworth

This impressive new build feature property was constructed to a similar design and style to the old Quarry House next door, as it was constructed on the garden of the existing property.

The sandstone work was produced to exact measurements and produced a very effective finish. The windows and doors were all purpose made hardwood.

MHCL demolished the existing bungalow and constructed this Huff style property from glulam timber beams, masonry and large areas of glass to produce a very effective end result.

This new build property was commissioned by the Clients and MHCL selected and appointed the Architects to undertake the full design and worked closely with the Clients to achieve the beautiful end result of this fabulous family home.

Clinton Willows

New Build Detached Property, Clinton Willows, Borrowell Lane, Kenilworth

This substantial detached property was built over three stories with high level feature cathedral style curved ceilings. The high quality project included some very individual features such a large double glazed two storey feature window in the rear garden room.
