PROJECT

Riverside Boatshed – New Build Home Office and Carport/Boatshed

OVERVIEW

This project involved the construction of a new detached boathouse, designed to accommodate a home office above and a carport/boatshed below. The building replaces a former boatshed and has been carefully positioned to nestle seamlessly into the riverside landscape, offering both functionality and architectural sensitivity to its setting.

The structure combines a robust steel frame with a timber frame superstructure, ensuring long-term durability and structural integrity. Externally, the building is clad in high-performance Millboard composite panels, with a rubber roofing system providing a low-maintenance and weather-resistant finish. The structural steel columns were encased in blockwork and clad in natural stone, blending the industrial core with the traditional materials found in the surrounding environment.

Despite challenges during construction, including high water levels and flooding, the building was engineered and elevated to sit well above projected future flood levels, ensuring resilience to river-related risks. The result is a thoughtfully crafted and highly functional structure that enhances both the usability and aesthetic of the site.
